Sam & Chris|Engaged

sc1

I recently had the opportunity to partake in a very fun and unconventional engagement session.  It was more of a group mentoring/workshop/class ‘ish assembled by a member of a small photography group that I’m in.  What’s really fun about this session is that one of our subject is also a photographer herself and a member of the  same photography group.  The couple chose the locations which was shot in the cities.  We really had a great time learning from each other and just enjoyed each other’s company.  So enough about the day and let me introduce to you Sam & Chris. I was very lucky to catch a moment of Sam’s time after the session and she was able to answer a few questions for me.  🙂

How did you two meet?

We went to high school together, but never spoke there. Chris is good friends with my brother, and we became friends on Facebook, where we started keeping track of each other. I tricked him into taking me out on a date when he offered up some tickets to the Funny Bone to whoever wanted them, and we’ve been together ever since.

How did he pop the question?

Simply, sweetly, sincerely, and privately. 🙂2014-11-18_0005 2014-11-18_0006 How long have you been together?

What are you and your fiancé’s hobbies?  What do you guys like to do on your free time?

I read a lot, fold paper, love to eat, write in my journal, studie feng shui and crystal healing, and play video games.  Chris plays video games, too, he’s a gearhead, loves movies and hanging out with his family (they’re all very close).  I would also add that he has an ice cream hobby. Together, we live out whatever geeky fantasy we are involved in at the moment, and we laugh. A lot. Chris’ sense of humor carries our relationship. 2014-11-18_0008 2014-11-18_0009

Interesting facts about you and your fiancé?

There are no interesting facts about me, Iris. lol

I think Chris would say the sameWe both have tattoos in the same place on our backs that represent metamorphosis and transcendence. He has a phoenix with his 3 children’s names, and I have a butterfly. Chris quotes movies practically every other sentence. We have a penchant for super heroes and video games.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to other couples during their wedding planning?

Being a wedding photographer and now an engaged person, I can totally see where my clients are coming from when they vent to me about certain things, but here’s what I would encourage you to keep in focus throughout your wedding planning – whatever happens, you and your fiance will be married after the wedding. Your lives will continue as normal, as they are now. No matter who is involved in the planning, make sure you are on the same page, with footnotes and explicit details outlined, with your fiance. That doesn’t necessarily mean the same level of involvement in planning, but keep communication very open and make sure you both are a team about it. It’s not just one person’s wedding – you are both choosing to marry, so discuss everything.2014-11-18_0013 2014-11-18_0014 2014-11-18_0015 2014-11-18_0016

What are you most anxious, nervous or fearful about your BIG day?

I’m excited about marrying Chris. There’s no anxiety, no nerves, no fear in it; just excitement. Part of that is probably because we are planning an event that is very “us”, and chose to go a little offbeat to achieve that, with our ceremony at a contemporary art museum and our reception at a bowling alley. We are funding the event ourselves, which allowed us the freedom to pretty much do exactly what we wanted. Also, I work in the wedding industry so I had a lot of background knowledge about what it would take to get the fabulously fun party we wanted to throw while staying on budget. It’s going to be a blast and we are both super excited about it!

2014-11-18_0017Thank you Sam & Chris for sharing some of your time with me!  It was such a pleasure working with the two of you.  I look forward to seeing some of your wedding photos next year by Jay of Jacob Loafman Photography. 🙂

Fall is seriously becoming my favorite season!  I just absolutely love the colors and the fun a little child can have by just playing with the fallen leaves on the ground.  As you can see, this gorgeous family of three will be adding a fourth member to their clan possibly December or January.  The mommy-to-be in this photos is a very talented hair stylist, who happens to be the woman behind my hair.  I’ve been photographing her family for the past year and I am so excited I got the chance to hang out with them recently.  By the looks of the big smiles on their faces, I think everyone is excited and ready for Baby Jack to arrive.  Thanks Politte Family for trusting me once again with your family photos!  I can’t wait to meet Mr. Jack!

Lawton|Family

L1Check out this adorable and photogenic family!  It’s always fun shooting a family session especially when the family is your neighbors and babysitters.  It was a true laid back session and they were up for anything which made them super easy to photograph.  The Lawton’s live just  a few houses down the street from us and their beautiful teen twins babysits my little toddler whenever I’m away photographing sessions.  Of course, we scheduled their session on a weekend so the girls could be free of baby-sitting duties! Thank you for hanging out Lawtons!

Summer | 2015 | LaFayette High School

I had the pleasure of photographing this bubbly and very fun senior from La Fayette High School.  Summer is one of the most laid back senior I’ve photographed.  We laughed and giggled almost the entire time during her session.  Her mom came along to her session and she was just as sweet and bubbly like her daughter.  Talk about a really cool and fun clients, yep that’s you Laura and Summer!

This easy going girl’s schedule involves Student Council, National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta, and cross country. Her goal is to be accepted into medical school at the University of Kentucky.  Good luck Miss Summer!  Stay sweet and beautiful!

Kelly & Ryan | Married

KR1_9212

Ryan and Kelly are married!  What a beautiful wedding from ceremony to the reception.  I met Kelly through one of my photog pals Katie from Katharine Roberds Photography.  Katie was invited as a guest to their wedding so she happily referred Ryan and Kelly to me.  Of course, my side kick (a.k.a. Katie), still assisted me a for a bit during the day and some of the beautiful photos you’ll see below were shot by this talented lady.

My day with them began at the Moonrise Hotel where they both got ready.  Kelly’s dad delivered some tasty custard from Ted Drewes so the girls got the chance to kick back and enjoy some dessert before photos.   Their first-look took place up on the roof top of the Moonrise Hotel (we seriously captured some gorgeous photos of them with the view of the loop) followed by photos at Tower Grove Park.  Both ceremony and reception were held at Oliva on the Hill.  Their “writer’s themed” wedding was created by Allissa from Style: Altar’d, flowers by Tina from The Special Event Florist – Tina Barrera, and event planning by the sweet ladies at Absolutely in Event Planning.

I had an amazing time working with this lovely couple and their families.  Ryan and Kelly are such a sweet and classy couple.  I wish them many blessings and lots of love!

Julie & Ryan|Married|Saint Louis, MO

JR

I love to photograph just about anything, but I truly love photographing weddings.  It’s typically a day filled with love, happy tears, and positive energy.  Ryan and Julie’s wedding was definitely the prime example of just that.  Their friends and families were beaming with smiles and excitement throughout the day for this special couple.  You can almost feel the connection and love that everyone had for Ryan and Julie.  They tied the knot this past September at Saint Peters Episcopal Church. Congratulations Ryan and Julie!  Thank you for allowing me to be part of your special day. I wish the two of you all the best!
